--- Auch der Economist widmet sich heute der Beziehung zwischen China und Hongkong: CHINA made it clear this week that any move to introduce greater democracy in Hong Kong will need prior clearance from the central government in Beijing. So what else is new? Few had ever expected that political reform in the territory would get off the ground if China’s Communist leaders were against it. But Hong Kong’s frustrated democrats see the ruling as an unusually direct assault on the idea of “one country, two systems” under which the former colony is supposed to enjoy extensive autonomy, except in foreign affairs and defence. If China wants to ease the political tensions that have roiled the territory in recent months, it may have chosen the wrong tactic.
